Windows 2000 crash and no turning back

Microsoft has thought of everything, not !

I have Windows 2000 installed and for some reason the file SYSTEM corrupted. This file is the registry hive for the Operating system (c:\winnt\system32\config).
Where is Microsoft's error?
They have not integrated a backup system to keep copies of this file at least more often than the first installation. What happened is that I manually copied (through the recovery console) the SYSTEM backup file (c:\winnt\repair), after the automated recovery procedure failed.
After restarting the system any programs having information stored in the old SYSTEM file (registry) now have to be reinstalled.

Wonderful isn't it that you can rely on this operating system.
Prove me wrong, and I will be very happy.
